The Birmingham Pride parade has been scrapped.
Following disagreements between the organisers and other local groups over what time the parade was to be held, organisers have decided to get rid of the march, according to the Birmingham Post.
"There was pressure on us this year to put back the parade until early evening rather than in the afternoon, which is when we’ve always held it,” Phil Oldershaw, Birmingham Pride spokesman told the newspaper.
"Some groups were objecting to the road closures. We decided that this different time would stop it being a community event, so we took the decision to scrap it this year.”
The parade route normally goes from the Town Hall in Victoria Square and ends in the gay area around Hurst Street. Last year’s event attracted a police estimate of around 47,000 people over two days.
The organisers insist the12th Birmingham Pride, being held over the Spring Bank Holiday on 24 and 25 May will be as "awesome and as outrageous" as ever.
All the events planned for the gay village and all stage acts will still go ahead, with headline artists and community groups performing.
“Birmingham City Council’s events unit have been spot on and helped us every step of the way,” Oldershaw said.
